DataQ – Contest Violations

Contesting violations is a carrier's right.

If a carrier feels that they were given a violation incorrectly, it can be contested via the DataQ section of FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration).

It is important to keep track of violations, they affect a carrier's CSA (Compliance, Safety, Accountability) score which can increase insurance as scores get higher.  Different violations have different point values and affect a carrier's CSA point score.

When a fleet has enough safety data in BASIC (Behavior Analysis and Safety Improvement Categories), a fleet is given percentile ranking from 0-100 based on the violation rate.  BASIC uses a fleet's percentile rank and compares it to other similar carriers.  BASIC uses the data to decide if your fleet is having trouble with safety performance.  The higher score it flags DOT that specific fleets may need further inspections and can increase insurance costs to that carrier.

Annual Inspections

Last Frontier CMV can perform a DOT style Level 1 Annual inspections on any Straight Truck, Tractor, Trailer and Tanker. This will make sure that a carrier has a thorough pre-check inspection to pass a full DOT Level 1 or just know your fleet is in top shape.

Vehicle Maintenance

In 2023 31% of national roadside inspections were triggered by visible vehicle defects, such as lights and tires. These types of roadside violations are much easier to avoid if carriers are regularly monitoring and conducting preventative maintenance, inspections, and thorough walk arounds.

This is where Last Frontier CMV comes in. We can come to a carriers shop and conduct full Level 1 inspections (also counts as annual inspections) on any Straight Truck, Tractor, Trailer, and Tanker. A Level 2 inspection can also be requested to check the outside to make sure all parts are in working condition. As CMV inspectors are going through the fleet, a detailed list will be provided to the carrier's mechanic to fix any violations.

Training

Last Frontier CMV can train drivers to do complete walk arounds to find what DOT inspectors are looking for and make sure the units are in safe working condition.

We can cover almost any section of the 49CFR Regulations to help areas that any number of carriers can be struggling with. A set plan can be put in place before the training session begins, but it is not a mandatory outline. We feel that training by a time crunch and outline does not provide the knowledge that drivers, staff, mechanics etc. need to fully feel secure with the 49CFR regulations.  By providing hands on training that includes current units in the fleet, repetitive violations and basic pre-trip checklists will ensure continuity and efficiency.

Training can be booked for 2-12 hours depending on the needs of the carrier and subject matter. We are here to help you and your team always feel safe while performing their jobs and feel comfortable during inspections.
